Abandoned store down the street from the hostel

Abandoned house down the street from the hostel

Crib in the back room

7th Ward Neighborhood

You can see the water line in this photo. It was over my head

There is still a lot of garbage and debris in the street.

India House Hostel

My room in the hostel, which I share with 5 boys. These boys are gutting houses all day. This room does not smell very good.

The hostel from the outside. My window looks out on that Union Jack.

Common Ground Relief

Here are some photos of the organization I am working for - Common Ground Relief. It is a kind of commune/collective/community organization. This house is home to many hippies, activists and general vagabonds. It houses a computer lab that is open to the public, free clothing, hot lunch everyday, and a legal clinic. There is a tent village in the backyard where many of them live.

These are the volunteers hard at work on legal issues.

These are some Collective People working on clothing distribution, wetlands protection, and addictions-counselling resources

Cory reading the entire Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure

Tents (and mud!) in the backyard. Lots of people live here.

Buildings across the street from Common Ground. These are occupied; note the debris out front.

These buildings are also accross from Common Ground but they are all boarded up and abandoned. They are marked with "TFW" which stands for "Toxic Flood Water."

Test Post

This is my blog to document my trip to New Orleans. Now I will see if I can post a photo.

It worked! This is me after the Dresden Dolls concert. I took this photo to preserve my false eyelashes for all posterity. They were that fantastic.
Here is close-up of the eyelashes in question:
